Tetris - building style

I <3 YouTube!!!

Hmmmm…

It all started when I read this post on Linda’s blog about how Lunarin might be taking a hiatus. In fact, it was due to guitarist Kah Wye being posted to Taiwan for work for the next 6 months as it’s written here. I’m starting to think that he might not even be coming back! Anyhow, apparently drummer Eng Teck is quite perturbed about the incident (as written here) and is pretty determined to track down Kah Wye. What I’ve heard is that Kah Wye had been contactable only once since he left last week… In fact, there were rumours he might stay in Taiwan to work and form another band. Heard he really likes the place.

So I had a few drinks with the 2 the other night. Despite their differences, I could see that they missed him a lot. Though Kah Wye had commited to flying back on a regular basis to play shows with Lunarin, Linda’s not too hopeful in the long run. She was almost in tears… I could see underneath Eng Teck’s steely demeanor that he was hurting too.

Anyhow, it somehow came to this arrangement that I might have to help out on guitars for the time being as a standby guitarist in the event that the budget airline flights from Taiwan are delayed (… as usual). With the option of seeing I might join the band in the more permanent sense in the future. What of The Love Experiment? Would I have to leave the band in the event that my aid to Lunarin becomes too weighty? Goddammit, I can't even play squeal harmonics! Gotta ask Alvin to teach me again...

Wet panties...

My friend Wendy is drooling over the Cleo Bachelor band which Sujin is part of on her blog. Remind me to introduce you guys to each other the next time round.

The Love Experiment loves KL!!!

As much as we loves you, we loves Kuala Lumpur too! We is going up this coming Friday to play a show with the sexy beasts from Lied, furniture (who is coming down to play at Bar None on Mon 15 May with a new line-up; so we is get to see this line-up before any Singaporeans! Roaaawwwrrr!), The Ferns (who will be playing on the launch of For Good! on Mon 8 May at Bar None), etc. Woo hoo!

Adlin from Lied (who is also playing Bar None on Mon 29 May at Bar None as well) was kind to offer us an interview with The New Straits Times (That's the Malaysian press, doodes!) here. Thanks!!! We is looking forward to the dimsum too!!!

Interesting music news...

Haven't been surfing recently Here's what caught my eye over at Pitchfork.

Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Is a Go

Amy Phillips reports:
"It's official, the Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. No release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."

Well, there you have it-- the latest update on the Smashing Pumpkins reunion, taken straight from the band's official website. That's all. Nothing else to report, sorry!

No, we don't know who exactly is in the band now, although we assume it's some combination involving Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain, since Billboard.com reported earlier this year that the pair signed a management deal under the Smashing Pumpkins name.

Well, bravo for you, Mr. Potatohead! Your angsty teenager fans in the mid-90's have all grown up to be yuppies with higher disposable incomes in the new millenium! Congrats! Start that world tour already and milk us for all we are worth!!! We are ready!

Sparklehorse Nab Waits, Danger Mouse for New LP

Dave Maher reports:
Continuing their tradition of providing Pitchfork with the same news story every two years*, Sparklehorse have announced details of the follow-up to 2001's It's a Wonderful Life. This time, however, the record is finished and scheduled for a tentative September release. (Hello, 2008!)

The band's website reports that most of the currently untitled album was made "in the style of VivaDixie/Good Morning Spider by Mark [Linkous, songwriter and Sparklehorse leader] alone in Static King Studio." The rest of it was "mixed at Smart Studio in Madison, Wisconsin with Danger Mouse and engineered by Alan Weatherhead and Beau Sorenson." With all those details, how could it possibly be postponed?

And like a kindergarten report card that includes the comment "plays well with others," the album features collaborations with Danger Mouse, Christian Fennesz, Sophie Michalitsianos, Johnny Hott, Scott Minor, Stephen Drozd of the Flaming Lips, and super-producer/past collaborator Dave Fridmann as well as an unreleased song from It's a Wonderful Life with Tom Waits on piano. Whoa!

Yes, it's just like kindergarten, a kindergarten full of music icons.

I'm not a Sparklehorse fan by any chance. In fact, I barely remember any tunes. I'm just surprised that they are around but the frontman collaborated with Nina Persson of The Cardigans on her solo project A Camp. And check out that list of contributors/ guests. Impressive! Better than The Love Choir!

In some music unrelated news, the list of the cast in Michael Bay's 'Transformers' is out. From CHUD.

Michael Bay's future blockbuster Transformers is getting ready to film, and we're starting to hear names of the people portraying characters whose alternate forms aren't cars and radios and oversized handguns.

Gawky youngster Shia LaBeouf (Holes, Constantine) will play the main fleshling caught up in the war between Autobots and Decepticons, huge intelligent robots who can change shape into various vehicles and household objects with a familiar “hmm-hee-haa-hoo” noise.

Filmforce must be holding on to Optimus Prime's toolbox, since they've managed to expose a lengthy list of other actors apparently planning to interact with the CGI contraptions, including veteran Jon Voight, man-mountain Michael Clarke Duncan, high-haired Las Vegas hunk Josh Duhamel, plus Bernie Mac, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, and several other vaguely non-robotic beings.

The megabudget Dreamworks/Paramount project, which as a Michael Bay movie will presumably feature energetic editing and periodic detonations as well as giant friggin' robots punching each other, was penned by Alias scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and starts shooting soon with the intention of hitting theaters July 4th next summer.

I feel my childhood is being pummelled and raped... Sigh.

Incidents in Tokyo

Weiyuan and Yeeyong are recently crazy over this Jap band Tokyo Jihen or Tokyo Incidents in Engrish. I rikes the Twilight Zone tribute intro. Nice. I thought the arrangement is pretty cool too.

Plus the video features the frontwoman Shena Ringo bra-less with her raisins all perked for action. That's right! Click the play button, you pervs.

Erm...

Had a conversation with Marvin. Apparently, his dog's named after a Beatles tune 'Pennylane'. It's nice. This just reminded me of the time I wanted to adopt a stray which I saw on the streets. His name would have been Bigsby Tremolo. How cool is that?!

Anyways, Grace, Billy and George have been asking me where they could get the CD. It'd be in Sembawang Music Centre, Gramophone, Borders, Flux-Us, Karma and Café Cosmos by the end of the week. The price will range from S$15 - 17. Go get yourself a copy and help a good cause.

If that's not enough drive for you, you'd get to hear me snore on a proper recording!

Men In Tights...

Brandon Routh as Superman

Kevin Spacey (I loved his older work...) trying to revive his career as Lex Luthor

I dunno if the picture is compressed or anything but Rebecca Romijn looks dangerously curvey...

Aging Youth issue #23

For Good! compilation

Image hosting by Photobucket

This is a project which has taken more than 10 months to fulfil. We started planning this with the Music For Good guys last July. All the tracks were in by end of March and finally, it's done. The CD will be out in all good music stores (That's what they all say anyway...) at the end of the month! Go get yourself a copy to hear me snoring on The Love Experiment track!

Music For Good (MFG) and Aging Youth Records (AYR) have collaborated on the For Good! CD compilation, amassing 14 homegrown acts under an umbrella to raise funds for MFG, a charity organisation dedicated to using music as a delivery channel to help its constituents. The proceeds from the album sales will be channelled to fund MFG’s youth outreach programs and its operation costs.

You can have a preview of the album at our MySpace page at www.myspace.com/agingyouth. All tracks contributed by the acts are previously unreleased, ranging from outtakes to remixes to tracks from upcoming albums.

For more details on Music For Good and how you can volunteer, log onto: www.musicforgood.org.

The compilation album is proudly sponsored by Bar None. And the official launch of the album will be held on Monday 8 May at Bar None (320 Orchard Road, Singapore Marriott Hotel Basement) with Documentary In Amber and Stoned Revivals showcasing their talents.

Wasted opportunity...

I was supposed to go help out with the Lunarin 'Silverpiece' video shoot as a care-ler-fare... But I was out with the Camra boys, Dionne (Marv's gf),Fuzz, Randolf and Sujin till 8am today. So naturally, I missed the entire shoot which started at 8am. Knocked out till 230pm.

Just watched a documentary on blue screen shooting. Apparently, the director of the 'Silverpiece' video Jacen had some ideas regarding the use of blue screen. Would have been interesting though. And would be nice to catch up with Adlin who came down from KL for the shoot!
